who is a puppy killer? It really doesnt' seem like a very nice thing to have a tribe about, really, but I guess it's ok if you are into that kind of thing. I knew this kid when I was in grade school who used to kill the neighborhood cats and he didnt' think anyone knew it was him but I knew and I told the police but they ddin't beleive me so I told my parents and they talked to his dad but his dad was like nuts, you know and he was standing there on his porch with his beer in his hand and a cigarette and my dad told him he was going to call that place, what is it, spca? well he was going to call that place that stops cruelty to animals and then the kids dad threw the bottle at my dad and it hit him in the head so my mom called the cops and the kid got taken away to a foster home and the guy went to jail. My dad told me that he had some illegal stuff in his house but wouldnt' tell me what it was, but I know that even when the guy got out of jail the kid never went back to live there.

To date, my assessment of Walter is that he's dodged the issue poorly and with cynical disregard for the intelligence of those involved, shown no willingness to seriously engage in discussion no matter the tone (hence my increasingly confrontational voice), and generally treated the matter with condescension and dishonesty.

This isn't exaggeration at all. He's told lots and lots of fibs; I don't trust him. Whereas prior to being booted I simply wanted him to stop harassing alts and artists, now I'd really just like to see his profile disappear: let tribe.net deal with its social networking tool in a professional rather than personal manner. He's *not* the right man for the job; it's the wrong job. He might be a great guy, but this is not work for a great guy; maybe that's part of the reason for this fiasco.

All that aside, the main thing is that the service is besieged by problems that wouldn't exist if its staff would simply stop succumbing to this bizarre need for control. Let people do as they will; let people steward their own internet experience. Hiding 'bad' things doesn't make them go away, it makes them worse. Example: I didn't use to spend much time telling Walter that he's fucking up by lying.

I replied to him that without the discussion boards that they would have no draw and be more or less just like Craig's List (although a much less cooler version). Never heard back, nor have I ever heard from Walter although I sent him three emails. It seems that Tribe is a youngster and is learning. It is learning how some people are using it's service, and how some are abusing it.
I hope that the up side of this all is that new procedures are put into place. I know they are discussing them over in the tribe ideas tribe.
But how can we get MG back? even without all the history (since it has been deleted), MG can still live if Tribe allows it. So, will Tribe allow MG to come back?

I suspect this is in direct response to my "outing" of him on the TOU Watchdogs Tribe, under the Subject: Walter?

(I hereby give myself permission to quote myself)

"Walter is a functionary of Tribe.net. He is an executor of policy, not (necessarily) an author of policy. He is the only face we have to put on the authority of Tribe, and so he gets all of our kudos when things are spiffy, and all of our rancor when the shit hits the fan. This hardly seems right. I don't think Tribe.net is just Walter, alone in some closet up in San Fran, tearing his hair out (oops...) over our bull. No, the fact is that Walter is just the public face of the Company, and he likely has a lot less influence then we're giving him credit for. He's a functionary. He's probably got little more authority than you or I in the daily goings on of the business he is a party to. He's paying the rent.

As such, do you really think he has the kind of freedom to say "yeah, guys, I know this is fucked up, but there's nothing I can do about it..."? I sincerely doubt it. He's just a guy.

Maybe you're right, and joining a Tribe does not logically mean you endorse it. Maybe you can join it specifically to offer counter argument to whatever is being posited there. In this case, deleting an entire Tribe due to that Tribe's stated purpose cannot be correct, it's true. But, on the other hand, what if Walter's point is valid, and by joining a Tribe, you are automatically a party to whatever action or statement that Tribe is then making? Allow me to remind you, Walter joined a Tribe, which at the time he joined it was named "Walter is a Puppy-Killer", and has as it's stated purpose the criticism of the TOU action of 7/29. I don't know how you interpret this, but it is as clear as daylight to me. Though the name of the Tribe had changed, you'll notice that Walter is STILL an active member of "(censored by tribe) is a Puppy-Killer".

Walter may be evasive, out of professional necessity, and I will be the last man to begrudge him that; but I believe his actions betray his personal standpoint on the matter, in spite of whatever policies restrain him."

Unfortunately, by clarifying that Walter's mere presence in this Tribe can be interpreted as no less than an act of contrition for, and critique of the TOU action of 7/29, I may have thus forced him to withdraw, as the point has surely been made clear to his superiors as well. The proverbial cat is out of the proverbial bag.

And so I say, au revoir, sweet Walter - fight the good fight as best you are able!

this was really scary for me. joining this tribe i mean. because of my social anxiety issues, i have always been afraid of being "punished" or "taken to task".

so my first thought was that this tribe is going to cause all of it's members to be deleted. which is scary.

but then i thought....HEY! SCREW THAT! i love The Wendy, Madame Gonzaga, and The James! and they...and many others, were treated unfairly by Tribe.

and so what if my account gets deleted. history has taught us that you can come back, they don't block you from doing so. annnnnd, if i get deleted because i take a stand, why would i want to be here anyways?

losing contact with my friends? not gonna happen, because i talk to most of them on the phone, email, or IM on a regular basis.

so here i ham (yes! ham!) being brave....

Here's the thing:

Taking another member's personally identifiable information without their permission (such as a photo) is a violation of the Terms of Use.

Also, creating a publically available Tribe that harasses other members is also a TOU violation. If you want to dish in private, that's different.

Please remove my photo and take my name out of this Tribe's title.

If anyone would like to have a rational discussion about community issues here, I'm all for it. I can't discuss the particulars of any specific member's account, but I can answer general questions about site policies.

Ok... I'm still unclear on what specifacally happened...But specifics did not stop the Puppy Killer. Here's the gist of what I've gathered... Dr.Yo was impersonated somehow:.Therefore, walter deleted Madame Gonzonga while not deleting the perpetrator. Logical and fair. Afterall, the terms and agreements say this must happen, right? And Walter is apparently the dog butchering machine that destroys pets without reason or conscience according to the rules.
Lets look at the actual crime here... Real simple one too... SPOOFING.... Don't give me some "Identity Theft" Bullshit excuse (I refuse to beleive the writer of the terms and agreements has never used IRC). SPOOFING is when you take the NAME of a person... However it is nearly always an obvious parody. The identity, as copletely shown by what a person posts, which remain the same. Did Madame Gonzonga alter someone's Posts? NO! Did she successfully Impersonate DR. Yo? I somehow doubt this. The funny thing about when you code a site...You set the fucking rules. If you don't want any asshole to do as they please, you telll your fucking computer not to allow it. If the rules are too strict as to not let anyone have fun, no one will use your fascist system!!! It's that simple. The "TOU Guy" is a fair indication that your broken system is bandaided by a pretend automated system. Complaints really should be pointed to the big ol' "BETA" letters next to tribe. If you're skin is too thin to publish on the internet...Then maybe you shouldn't make yourself a public figure. This might not be everyones opinion...but sometimes popular opinion will deem you an ASSHOLE (for instance...I am a Bastard).
Legally, Identity theft is a serious offence, but parody is protected even more fiercely. Lighten up morons, or go fuck yourselves. Most of these social networking sites have great ambitions and potential, but ALL of the ones around for over a year have major MANAGEMENT issues. Recommendation systems, marketing and grouping technology, and socil trend tracking software is important to develop... Killing puppys over this is just plain mean and stupid. As manufacturers of such technology, it should be obvious that when you pull out a major hub needlessly there should be hell to pay. Then why the fuck would you do this? Its been conjectured that Dr.Yo is a personal friend and thats why. Either way, the connection makes it impossible for you to make an impartial desision on the matter which is part of the management problem. This is why, despite how often ive been told how Nice walter is in his customer service, I must label him a PUPPY KILLER!

Delete 'Em All & Let God Sort 'Em Out

It has recently come to my attention that certain aspects of my previous topic (under a similar subject heading) were not consistent with Tribe.net's most current Terms of Use Policies, and so I took the liberty of deleting the offending thread.

To re-iterate my closing points from that thread:

I fail to understand the mechanics of how it took multiple parties to impersonate a Tribe.net member, or that an entire Tribe was created for this express purpose. I've seen many profiles impersonated, and it never took more than one person to do it. I suppose that makes my question, what was the stated purpose of this Tribe, and how were it's members complicit in the alleged impersonation?

Hypothetically, if I were to create an alt which was an impersonation of a Tribe.net member, and publish the password to that alt in a Tribe (say, for instance, this one) and then if this Tribe's description were to be changed to read "This Tribe exists for the sole purpose of the identity theft of ________ in direct violation of Tribe.net's Terms of Use", then, would it not be TOU Guy's duty to delete every member of this Tribe for complicity in said action (including Walter, of course, since he is currently a member)?

This is my current understanding of the situation.

I can see how the tribe's premise would make Walter feel defensive and therefore entrenched in his position. to get Madame Gozonga back, which is what we want, we need Walter to be willing to be flexible. since, as my mother said, "you get more flies with honey," perhaps we should tell him how much we will all appreciate him bringing her back. This may be easier than expecting him to admit a mistake or to any negotiate with those who insult him.

*I don't expect you all to agree with me.*

For the sake of my own karma, however, I'm going to leave this tribe. My thinking is that then when I do contact walter about this he won't see that, out of the other side of my face, I'm saying he's a murderer.
