To date, my assessment of Walter is that he's dodged the issue poorly and with cynical disregard for the intelligence of those involved, shown no willingness to seriously engage in discussion no matter the tone (hence my increasingly confrontational voice), and generally treated the matter with condescension and dishonesty.
This isn't exaggeration at all. He's told lots and lots of fibs; I don't trust him. Whereas prior to being booted I simply wanted him to stop harassing alts and artists, now I'd really just like to see his profile disappear: let tribe.net deal with its social networking tool in a professional rather than personal manner. He's *not* the right man for the job; it's the wrong job. He might be a great guy, but this is not work for a great guy; maybe that's part of the reason for this fiasco.
All that aside, the main thing is that the service is besieged by problems that wouldn't exist if its staff would simply stop succumbing to this bizarre need for control. Let people do as they will; let people steward their own internet experience. Hiding 'bad' things doesn't make them go away, it makes them worse. Example: I didn't use to spend much time telling Walter that he's fucking up by lying.

Re: Begins with "W" & ends with "alter"
Fri, September 10, 2004 - 2:28 PMActually, neither of them is lying. They have radically different perceptions about Loki's posts in Tribe Moderators. Loki's perceptions are probably closer to my own. -

Re: Begins with "W" & ends with "alter"
Sat, September 11, 2004 - 10:51 AMThe thread got deleted, and I got kicked out of that tribe. I didn't delete the thread or mash that "Leave Tribe" button. All's I can do is just keep saying that. Unlike previous iterations of this continuing story of bullshit and deception is that I actually feel kind of honored.
Nice to know that someone in this world understands how dangerous it is to let me keep talking.
DEATH TO THE OPPRESSORS.

Re: Begins with "W" & ends with "alter"
Fri, September 10, 2004 - 4:21 PMTribe is a venture capital backed startup company. Tribe has an interest in making the place welcoming to people who supply material of interest and value. Tribe does not have an interest in making the place welcoming to whinging reality-challenged buffoons who elevate their childlike misbehavior and its repercussions to high tragedy.
You are not likely to gain a favorable hearing for your complaints if you accuse the representative of the company that owns/operates the place of lying without any sort of factual citation to substantiate it.

Re: Begins with "W" & ends with "alter"
Fri, September 10, 2004 - 9:56 PM"Tribe has an interest in making the place welcoming to people who supply material of interest and value."
The material of interest & value is in the eye of the beholder, don't you think? And if I as the beholder find "whinging reality-challenged buffoons who elevate their childlike misbehavior and its repercussions to high tragedy" entertaining - then that makes it of interest & value to me, no? And who is more important then me - Mr. Average Everyday Joe Tribe User.
Also, Loki *has* provided "factual citation" for why he thinks Walter has lied - just not in this thread. Are you saying that every time he posts regarding this topic he has to repeat everything he's said before? Or maybe *you* could take it upon yourself to read a few more threads in a few more tribes before jumping feet first into the fray. Or not. That's your right as Mr. Average Everyday Tribe Programmer.
Just remember this: by contributing to this thread - you have endorsed those you have labeled as "whinging reality-challenged buffoons" as being interesting. Because if what they had to say wasn't interesting - you wouldn't have posted. Unless you're a troll. You're not a troll, are you? I didn't think so. -

[/snip]
Obviously tribe.net want to make some money and if something/someone spoils their game plan they will ‘delete’!
I like tribe.net but they seem to be trying to deny their origins i.e. prostitutes gays and weird peeps! Now don’t get me wrong tribes unique flavour is because of the mix of people and I wouldn’t want it changed but for tribe to suddenly want to be mainstream is crass. Of course tribe wants to appeal to the masses but that means many of the initiators may well end-up being deleted unless they conform!
Seems that tribe is a good idea but if they sell out I’m sure some other site will take its place.

Mon, September 13, 2004 - 7:12 AMAt least there's an end to it. "Whinging", OK OK, I'm adding it to my spellchecker. Under protest.
Oh, and Matt? If the staffers can refrain from lying, I promise not to call them "liars". Otherwise, I'll thank you not to pretend to authority, especially with regard to matters you obviously have a vested interest in smoothing over.
